using the participatory approach, get one or two frequent applicants and have them try the processes to see how they work and ask for feedback. always try to include the people who will be using said systems/programs.

Make sure they know you hear them; most people want to be related to. I have learned to always overestimate the timeline, instead of saying 2 weeks - I say 3-4 weeks for cushion. be friendly and always communicate.

I ask this because I am always thinking of ways to streamline or make things easier for applicants. What are some tips, tricks or advice?

Our OTC permits consist of Mechanical, Plumbing, re-roofs and some fire code permits. I think it works well for people and is such a faster process/turn around.

I think that they both have there own challenges. The city I work for has not fully implemented fully online submissions although that is the goal, it quite has not happened to due issues with our platform and having to outsource some of the problems we face. We encourage electronic submittals...

The permit still remains active, but up to the homeowner to update the new contractor and provide that information to the city/county.
