Hello, has anyone here ever applied for a food truck permit? Our local community is hosting a small event for the elderly, and my family wants to participate by cooking for them. We have never run restaurants or any food-related business. Any tips would be appreciated!

Assuming this is a one-time event, I believe you can apply for a temporary food establishment permit. Food trucks usually require a permit from the police and fire department too, but you better check with the event organizers first. They may need your documents for the event permit anyway.

Thanks for the pointers! We will start by submitting our documents to the organizers and see if we need to report further. I think the organizers will contact the police and fire departments. I hope this goes well!

In my city you'd be able to do this without a permit. So long as you're serving a small group, and you aren't charging for the food, you wouldn't necessarily need a permit. I'd definitely see if it's necessary before spending money on the application.
